Republicans are saying this is the U.S. House seat they will pick up in Florida. Democratic congressman Ron Klein is facing challenges on two fronts. Air Force Vet Paul Renneisen is back to once again challenge Klein in the primary. Retired Army officer Allen West, who lost to Klein in 2008, wants a rematch, but he has to get by David Brady first for the Republican nomination.
West has won national attention for his strong fund-raising. West has raised almost $3.5 million and has more than $2.2 million on hand. Republicans are crowing about West bringing in $1.4 million in the last quarter, while the Democrat raised more than $511,000. But Klein is no slouch and still has $2.9 million on hand. Renneisen does not appear to be much of a factor, with only $3,330 in the bank.
This one is going down to the wire and will garner major national attention.
