CD 17: Field of Officeholders Trails Rudy Moise in Money

July 16, 2010 - 6:00pm

On Thursday, campaign staffers for Dr. Rudy Moise announced their candidate had more than $900,000 on hand -- bad news for a field of officeholders taking Moise on for the Democratic nomination to replace U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek.

A host of legislators stand in Moises path to the Democratic nomination. None of them are close to having what Moise has in the bank. Sen. Frederica Wilson has more than $78,000 while Rep. Yolly Roberson, former Rep. Phillip Brutus (who was once married to Roberson), Rep. James Bush, Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson, Miami Gardens Councilman Andre Williams, North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin and Haitian-American activist Marleine Bastien all trail. With Moise now running television ads, it will be hard for some of the candidates to have an impact.

With no Republican in the race, attorney Roderick Vereen, who left the Democratic field to continue running with no party affiliation, awaits the winner in November.
