CD 11: Kathy Castor Appears in Good Shape but Keep an Eye on Mike Prendergast

July 16, 2010 - 6:00pm

While she has spent more than $300,000 so far, Democratic congresswoman Kathy Castor posted impressive fund-raising numbers, bringing in more than $360,000 from individuals and more than $260,000 from PACs so far. As of June 30, she had more than $427,000 on hand.

Tim Curtis, a businessman and former Marine, is challenging Castor for the Democratic nomination. Curtis has more than $1,100 on hand and has expressed his opposition to the new federal health care laws, the size of government and the Federal Reserve.

Republican candidate Mike Prendergast, a veteran of the Army and former aide to Bob Graham, has brought in more than $188,000 and had more than $127,000 on hand. Hes doing well with fund-raising and is gradually gaining more support from Republican leadership.

Architect Eddie Adams, who had the Republican nomination in 2006 and 2008, is running again. Hes raised more than $56,000 from individuals but also kicked in more than $58,000 of his own money to the campaign. Adams reported his campaign had $51,000 on hand as of June 30.

With less than $4,300 on hand, the other Republican candidates in the race -- Tony Buntyn and Thomas Castellano -- are not keeping up with Prendergast and Adams.

Castor is a favorite, but Prendergast has put together an impressive performance so far. He would be an underdog to be sure, but if he can get the nomination he might be a longshot to keep an eye on.
