Freshmen Congressman Ted Yoho, R-Gainesville, wont face any public rebuke for not voting for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, at least thats what Boehner is telling Politico.
Boehner, who saw a small group of Republicans, including Yoho, make statement votes during the speaker election, is setting out to reunify his conference and prove to Democrats in the White House and the Senate that he can command a governing majority of the House, Politico reported.
Yoho broke ranks on Thursday by casting his vote for Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., who was among the GOP members to vote against Senate Bill 8, the compromise backed by Boehner to prevent the nations economy from falling off the so-called fiscal cliff.
Yoho would later declare his vote was a signal to leadership.
We have gotten lost, Yoho stated in a release. What I have seen from the Republican Party is the rearranging of the deck chairs on the Titanic. Our ship called America is sinking. We have to right the ship.
According to Politico, Boehner held a closed door meeting Friday where he sought to bring together the entire GOP delegation behind legislation that raises the debt ceiling and cuts spending.
"I'm not a retribution kind of guy. I don't hold grudges," Boehner was credited as saying by those in the meeting, according to Politico.
"My door is always open, whether you voted for me or didnt vote for me.
