For four years Charlie Crist gave me a reason to get up in the morning. I've been so down since he left my computer screen. Then, just when I thought that 6 a.m. bounce to the bathroom sink was over -- eureka! -- along comes Annette Taddeo.
Thank you, God.
When Democrat Taddeo launched her 2016 congressional campaign against Republican officeholder Rep. Carlos Curbelo, the ink was barely dry on her fundraising email screw-up before she was at it again.
Seems less than eight hours on the campaign trail is quite enough, thank you. Busycandidates need a break!
Don't take my word for the latest gunshot to the foot. Chris Pack of the National Republican Congressional Committee wrote about it in his blog: "Just hours before appearing on national television to lie to America about being middle class," Pack said, "(Taddeo) called US 1 Radio, a local Florida radio station, to bail out on an interview that was scheduled for the next day." The station is in the Keys, in Curbelo's district -- same one Taddeo wants to represent.
"Her reasoning? She was tired," explained Pack. "Thats right -- after a whopping seven hours into her campaign for Congress, Annette Taddeo was so worn out she had to cancel a local Florida radio interview for the following day so she could get some R & R."
Lame as it was, her excuse worsened, Pack said, when radio listeners back home discovered Taddeo somehow found the strength to go on national television the night before.
Said Pack, "Luckily for Taddeo, a self-described member of the middle class, she does have that nice 6,500-square-foot, $1.25 million mansion she can lounge around in. She wouldnt even have to worry about her potential constituents seeing her since, you know, she doesnt even live in the district she wants to represent."
According to the Miami Herald, US 1 Radio host Bill Becker was so cheesed off about it, he made sure his audience knew all about it. He said, "I was going to have an interview with Annette Taddeo ... I scheduled it yesterday morning, they said fine -- 'Oh, she'd love to be on the air with you,' and, you know, because yesterday she announced her candidacy for Congress.
"Then around 5 o'clock I get a call: She's tired. Too tired to do an interview in the morning. So, you know, I said, boy ... wore out! All the interviews she did yesterday wore her out. But apparently she's not up to an interview this morning, so, hey, what can I do?"
Somebody suggested to Becker what he could do is make fun of her.
Which I think is a capital idea. Maybe the only good idea. It's early to tell for sure, but right now Taddeo looks like a gift that keeps on giving, a serial dysfunctionate. Wooo-hooo, exciting -- I think I'm having a Charlie Crist moment.
Meanwhile, back at US 1 Radio, every Monday morning at 8:10, the station hosts Rep. Carlos Curbelo. Becker says Curbelo never misses, never sounds tired.
