Allen West Turns His Focus to Taxes, Including Obama's $320 Billion Hike

January 18, 2015 - 6:00pm

Former U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., is hitting the ground running in his new role as president and CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), announcing that his group has formed an alliance with another conservative group to focus on taxes.

The NCPA announced on Monday that it has an agreement with the Beacon Hill Institute for Public Policy Research (BHI) to expand the works of its Tax Analysis Center. BHIs Tax Analysis Center focuses on how federal and state taxation impact economic growth.

The NCPA is thrilled to work with Dr. David Tuerck and the Beacon Hill Institute by way of the Tax Analysis Center, which will provide a dynamic analysis of policy initiatives and proposals, West said on Monday. The Tax Analysis Center will go beyond the current static system of analysis enabling NCPA and BHI to uncover the second, third, and fourth order effects of tax and other fiscal-related policy on individual and market-related behavioral responses.

West announced the Tax Analysis Center will propose new tax plans and focus on current tax proposals, including President Barack Obamas plan to raise taxes by $320 billion over the next 10 years and his proposed carbon tax. The Tax Analysis Center will also turn its attention to the tax proposals from the various 2016 presidential candidates.

There has never been a time when analyses of this kind were more urgently needed, said David Tuerck, the executive director of BHI. The next election cycle will produce widely conflicting tax policy proposals, some aimed at promoting economic growth and others at leveling the distribution of income. Voters and policymakers considering these proposals will need to understand the full range of their effects. We at BHI appreciate the opportunity to assist the NCPA in making these effects known to the public.

West took over at NCPA earlier this month and has stepped down from his Guardian Fund PAC, handing over the leadership of it to U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga. After losing his bid for a second term to Democrat Patrick Murphy, West has kept the door open to a political comeback, even as he relocated to Dallas to lead NCPA.

On Friday, Loudermilk outlined his agenda for the PAC in the 2016 election cycle.

Under the exceptional leadership of Allen West, the Guardian Fund led a grassroots conservative movement that led the way in taking the Senate back from liberal control and expanding our conservative majority in the House, Lourdermilk emailed supporters on Friday. Colonel West always leads by example, valuing decisive action over cheap talk. And I'm honored that he's asked me to follow him as chairman of the Guardian Fund. It's my intention to carry the torch forward as he would -- with direct action against the liberals who are trying to destroy America, by sending strong constitutional conservatives to serve in Washington.

Allen West played a major role in helping me get to Congress, Loudermilk continued. I am an Air Force veteran who served in intelligence during the Cold War, and when I made the decision to run for Congress, it was because I wanted to preserve liberty for my children and grandchildren. The Guardian Fund shares that desire and stood by me through victory in November. Now it's my turn to lead and I'm ready to go to the ends of the earth to fight for veterans, constitutional conservatives, and minority candidates, all of which we need more of in Washington.

Calling Obama dangerous, Loudermilk tore into the presidents record on terrorism and immigration.

Barack Obama, with his failed leftist ideology, is putting America at risk, Loudermilk insisted. Just like Allen West, I swore an oath to defend this country and its Constitution that I intend to uphold. The fight is on.
