AFP Launches Agenda for Florida Legislature

January 14, 2015 - 6:00pm

Conservative group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) unveiled its agenda on Thursday for the upcoming Florida legislative session. AFPs agenda calls for ending the corporate income tax and pulling the plug on special interest, business-specific tax subsidies and exemptions; reforming Medicaid, public pensions and Citizens Property Insurance; more school choice; less government regulation and more government transparency.

Politicians who hoped they heard the last from AFP activists for at least a year will have their hopes dashed today," said Chris Hudson, AFPs Florida director on Thursday. "With the announcement of our aggressive state and federal legislative agenda we are back in their neighborhoods, talking to their constituents, and holding them accountable for how their votes increase or decrease economic freedom and limited government. We will be as busy as ever standing up for the taxpayers, workers, parents, and job creators against the special interests that want to spend more of their money and restrict their options to achieve a better quality of life."

AFP also focused on its national agenda this month and showcased it on Thursday.

AFP CEO Luke Hilgemann spoke to the media on Thursday and praised his groups agenda, hoping it will help advance limited government, lower taxes and (give) more opportunity for Americans to live their dreams. He dubbed AFPs plan the American peoples agenda.

Hilgemann said Americans wanted lower energy and gas prices, better health care and a government that doesnt overspend their familys budgets which is at the heart of the groups national agenda.

When it comes to health care, AFP wants a full repeal of Obamacare, backs restoring the 40-hour work week instead of using the 30-hour one for President Barack Obamas health-care law and supports repealing the medical device tax. AFP is calling for Congress to return to regular budget order, to end the death tax and allow more opportunity for energy exploration, including supporting the Keystone XL Pipeline.
