The U.S. House passed a measure repealing much of President Barack Obama’s federal health-care law and defunding Planned Parenthood on Wednesday. Obama is expected to veto the bill. 

Burying Negative Polls

Network news outlets conduct their own polls. They also bury the poll results when they don't like them. On PBS on Jan. 1, liberal pundit Mark Shields brought some very bad news for the left. The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found 73 percent say they want the next president to take a different approach from President Obama's.

An election-year budget that includes huge tax cuts, record funding for public schools and a new initiative to bring jobs to Florida might be good politics for lawmakers. The question is whether they can afford it.

When lawmakers start the 2016 legislative session Tuesday, it will have been years since the House and Senate were in the depths of the fallout from the global financial meltdown that forced painful cuts to schools and politically perilous increases in tobacco taxes and motor-vehicle fees.

Rick Scott Starts 2016 Back on Florida's Center Stage

Rick Scott’s starting the new year by offering some reminders that, even while he can’t run for a third term, he’s no lame duck in Tallahassee. 

While the economy continued to do well with tourism on the rise and the unemployment rate dropping, Scott had a few hiccups last year. Despite sizeable Republican majorities in both chambers of the Legislature, the House and the Senate were often on far different pages over the budget, redistricting, Medicaid expansion and other issues.
