Sink Tests Campaign Themes

March 10, 2010 - 6:00pm

In a speech Thursday to a hundred African American clergy and laity at the capitol, CFO Alex Sink demonstrated how difficult it can be to tell if state office holders are acting as campaigners or government officials.

Sink, the leading Democratic candidate for governor, seemed to be sounding only election themes, speaking on unemployment and education.

Mack is Back (and has Crist's Back)

Locked in a bitter battle with Marco Rubio for the GOP nod for the U.S. Senate, Gov. Charlie Crist is bringing out former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack to vouch for him.

In a fundraising letter for the Crist campaign, Mack stressed Crists conservative credentials. Mack labeled Crist a common sense conservative and said that the governor is a reliable conservative on crime, guns and abortion. Mack said that Crist passed the biggest tax cut in Florida history and cut $7 billion in state spending during his term as governor.

Cutting Toward Prosperity

March 10, 2010 - 6:00pm

Florida has whacked its budget by $7 billion over the past three years. That's not just slower growth; that's a real decrease in spending.

Has Tallahassee cut all it can? Gov. Charlie Crist apparently thinks so,because he proposes a $2.7 billion hike this year.

Tweet, Tweet

March 13, 2010 - 6:00pm

It's a question increasingly asked, a sort of Internet Age social networking parlour game question: Who has the most friends or followers?

Could it be one of the candidates for U.S. Senate: Charlie Crist, Marco Rubio or Kendrick Meek? Or, perhaps a gubernatorial candidate: Alex Sink, Bill McCollum or Paula Dockery? One might even venture to guess it's former Gov. Jeb Bush.

A little bird told us the answer...

The Shameless Abortion Carnival

March 9, 2010 - 6:00pm

If anyone was looking for a self-righteous extreme feminist, they found one in Angie Jackson. This is a woman who was so proud she was aborting her baby that she announced she would "tweet" her chemical-cocktail abortion live, as it happened, on Twitter. The liberal media found this made-for-TV slaughter fascinating, and not at all a controversy worthy of discussing with two sides.

Proposed Road Kill: Texting

This just in from the House Majority Office:

Legislation moved through committee Wednesday designed to improve the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists; prevent crashes; reduce the financial impact of injuries, death, and property damage -- all caused by texting while driving; and authorize law enforcement to issue citations as a secondary offense.

I am thrilled that this issue is finally getting the attention it deserves, said Rep. Doug Holder R-Sarasota, sponsor of the bill. We must send a message that Floridas roads are safe to travel.
