A Martin County Circuit Court judge found that attorney Virginia Sherlock's objections to filing the final judgment against her client, former commissioner and environmentalist Maggy Hurchalla, was a deliberate attempt to delay the jury's award of $4.4 million to Lake Point Restoration for damages caused by Hurchalla's interference in its contracts.

A top budget writer said Wednesday she doesn’t expect a conference committee to settle all the differences between the House and Senate on health-care spending, leaving the issues to be decided by legislative leaders.
 
At the first health-care conference committee meeting Wednesday, Senate Health and Human Services Appropriations Chairwoman Anitere Flores, R-Miami, said she expects the chambers’ disparate policies on hospital funding to be “dealt with later on in session.”
 

After Parkland, Voter Numbers Stacked against Guns, Q-Poll Finds

In a poll taken less than two weeks after the deadly massacre of 17 people at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, a Quinnipiac University Poll released Wednesday shows Florida voters oppose 56-to-40 percent allowing teachers and school officials to carry guns on school grounds. Voters with children under 18 years old in public schools oppose arming school personnel 53-to-43 percent. 
 

Don’t Accept Bad Repeal of PIP

Florida’s Motor Vehicle No-Fault Law, commonly known as “PIP,” is under attack in the Florida Legislature. The outcome -- if trial lawyers succeed -- will be increased insurance rates in 60 of 67 counties in Florida. They are trying to repeal PIP in favor of a lawsuit-based system and mandatory “bodily injury” insurance, which reduces consumer choices.

Florida Has Archaeological Evidence of 7,000-Year-Old Site in the Gulf of Mexico

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced Wednesday that archaeological investigations located a 7,000-year-old Native American ancestral burial site in the Gulf of Mexico near Venice. The Manasota Key Offshore (MKO) archaeological site is unprecedented, according to a Florida Department of State news statement.
