The Florida AFL-CIO calls contemplated changes to the state's pension system "radical." It's long past time the union started being honest with its members.

Pension reform is coming to the public sector, just as it has to the private sector. As former New York City school chancellor Joel Klein wrote the other day:

Progress Energy Lobbyist Ashley Turton Dies in Not-Entirely-Explained Car Fire

Ashley Turton, a high-profile lobbyist for Progress Energy, was found dead in her car Monday, in a garage behind her Washington, D.C., home, following a car crash and resultant fire.

According to Politico, authorities have not determined the exact cause of the crash or why the car caught fire. Neighbors told police Ashley Turton was heading to the airport for an early flight.

Jeff Atwater Cheers Vern Buchanan's Balanced Budget Proposal

State CFO Jeff Atwater praised a proposal from fellow Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan looking to amend the U.S. Constitution to mandate the federal government maintain a balanced budget.

"Just as families across Florida and the nation work to balance their checkbooks each month, the federal government must work to balance the nations budget, said Atwater. The people of Florida spoke clearly and loudly on Election Day when they overwhelmingly, by a 72 percent margin, supported balancing the federal budget without raising taxes.
