Citing Nuclear Radiation Levels, Virginia Advises Against Drinking Rainwater

Virginia's health commissioner is advising her state's residents not to drink rainwater because of concerns about slightly elevated radioactivity levels.

"The Virginia Department of Health is advising residents that the states drinking water supplies remain safe, but reminds Virginians out of an abundance of caution they should avoid using rainwater collected in cisterns as drinking water," the state announced this week.

The warning came as radioactivity readings crept up along America's Eastern seaboard.

Caterpillar Should Expect Gov. Scott's Call; Will it Play in Peoria?

Florida shouldn't get its hopes up over an MSNBC report that Caterpillar Inc. is threatening to leave Illinois in search of greener, less-taxing pastures.

For starters, the Peoria-based big-equipment giant says MSNBC got the story wrong. The company, according to CAT spokesman Joe Dugan, isn't going anywhere.

"The story was based on a letter that was leaked," Dugan told Sunshine State News. In that letter to Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, CAT executives expressed concern about the fiscal and tax situation in the state.

Florida has remained lagging behind the rest of the nation in terms of the unemployment rate. In February, the most recent month when stats were compiled, the unemployment rate in the Sunshine State stood at 11.5 percent.

Two Republicans -- Sens. Thad Altman of Melbourne and Mike Fasano of New Port Richey -- joined five Democrats in voting against the measure, as it passed the Senate Budget Committee. Sen. Gary Siplin of Orlando was the only Democrat to vote for the Medicaid savings.

Video Peep: Tim Tebow Finally in Jockey Tight Whites

Nothing will help Gator Gals shed those basketball blues quicker than a glimpse of the Great Gator peeling off his shirt and strutting his stuff in Jockey tight white.

You would think.

Trouble is, the long-awaited Jockey underwear commercial featuring a buffed-up Tim Tebow, who visited the Florida Legislature earlier this year, is a little bit of a cheat. It's been released just this week, we'll see it on TV, but something is very wrong.

March 31, 2011 - 6:00pm

The Florida Legislature came a step closer to passing a renewable energy bill that rips apart all that the tea party stands for. The bill would forever assign renewable energy development and deployment solely to Floridas regulated electric monopolies under the guise of supporting a green future.
