Florida's Congressional Delegation to Address Seaports

The co-chairmen of the Florida congressional delegation, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota, and U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, will host a delegation meeting Feb. 14 on the future of Floridas ports.

Port directors from throughout Florida have been invited to the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C., to address jobs, port security and other challenges at the states seaports.

Senate Committee on Domestic Security Approves Funeral Protest Ban, In-State Tuition for Military

The Florida Senate Committee on Military Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security has unanimously approved two bills: one which effectively bans the staging of protests and funerals, and another which grants in-state tuition benefits to nonresident military veterans stationed in Florida.

Florida Senate Committee on Community Affairs Approves Ethics Overhaul, Drone Ban

Rick Scott: Siemens Energy to Create 50 Jobs in Orlando

Gov. Rick Scott announced Wednesday that Siemens is bringing 50 new jobs as its builds a 40,000-square-foot wind service training center in Orlando, near the American headquarters of the companys energy business.

The release from the governors office is the first of two expected as he is scheduled to be in Sunrise at 2 p.m. as Emerson Latin American holds a new jobs announcement.

House Democrats worry that election campaign finance reforms now moving through the Legislature could become costly, overburdening work for state elections officials who would have to record how every dollar is spent in every future campaign.

The author of the bill says that is the price of making sure the source and use of every dollar spent in an election is disclosed to the public.

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami, is among leading Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee demanding stronger sanctions on North Korea after the totalitarian, cult-like nation released a bizarre video that envisions the destruction of America.

Ros-Lehtinen, the former chair of the House committee who in 2010 was denounced by North Korea, said the vile video illustrates Pyongyangs hostile intentions and its willingness to undermine U.S. national security interests.
