Don Gaetz: Grounding of Blue Angels a 'Highly Visible Symbol of Government Dysfunction'

The Navys famous air show, the Blue Angels, plans to cancel nearly 30 events, including one in Florida, now that the budget sequester has been enacted.

Florida Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, lamented the loss of the air show, which was scheduled for MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., April 6-7.

Obama Signs Sequester Order, Parties Say They Won't Continue Fight into Federal Government Shutdown

President Barack Obama signed an order to begin automatic federal spending cuts Friday, as the deadline arrived and Congress headed home for the weekend without reaching a deal to avoid sequestration.

Obama decried the cuts during a half-hour press conference at the White House. Federal defense and services spending will be cut by $85 billion over the remainder of the year.As one of the largest defense-centric states, Florida is bracing to be hit with the consequences.

In an interview aired on Fox News on Sunday, Mitt Romney pulled the plug on speculation that he would launch a political comeback. He intends to remain politically active, he said, but don't expect him back for a third presidential bid.

When Carlos Carbonell, the CEO of the company charged with building the House's smart-phone app, decided at a press conference to demonstrate the video stream that would soon show live action on the House floor, there ended up being a slight echo in the room.

The app was providing streaming video of the press conference.

It was a lot like that over the last week: plenty of signs that the annual legislative session was about to get started, but little happening that actually demanded attention.
