U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., unveiled a bill on Thursday pushing back against President Barack Obamas proposal to limit energy exploration and fishing in 780,000 miles of ocean. Southerlands Marine Access and State Transparency (MAST) Act mandates any such actions would need to be approved by state governments bordering the impacted oceans, and Congress.

Support for the Common Core State Standards among those with school-aged children has dropped significantly, according to a new poll from Rasmussen Reports.
The poll found only 34 percent of American adults with children of elementary or secondary school age favorrequiring all schools nationwide to meet the same Common Core education standards, which is an18-point drop from 52 percent in early November of last year.Nearly half -- 47 percent -- oppose the implementation of the standards.

U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., the vice chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Veterans Affairs, unveiled the Creating Options for Veterans Expedited Recovery (COVER) Act on Thursday. On Thursday, the U.S. House is set to vote on U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Wash., Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act of 2014 which would increase domestic energy exploration by opening federal lands, particularly those in Alaska, and increasing offshore drilling.
