'Anti-Shariah Law' Passes Florida House

Legislation designed to prevent any foreign legal principles from being used in state courts passed the Florida House Thursday.

HB 351, sponsored by Rep. Larry Metz, R-Yalaha,has been widely dubbed the anti-Shariah law.

Supporters argued the bill is a preventive measure to ensure foreign law does not infiltrate the states family law courts.

Opponents called it a solution in search of a problem and said there has never been a case where someones constitutional rights were diminished by foreign law.

Gator Great Tim Tebow Accepts His 'Great Floridian' Award

Gov. Rick Scott presented one of the first Great Floridian awards of the year to football legend Tim Tebow on Friday in a ceremony at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse near Jacksonville.

Tebow, 25, was honored hours prior to the start of his third-annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Gala and Golf Classic. The gala is Friday night, the golf classic will be at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course on Saturday morning.

Gov. Rick Scott announced in Orlando Friday that since December 2010, Florida has created 294,200 private-sector jobs.

Considering the February unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 7.7 percent, he said, Florida's unemployment is now the lowest it's been since October 2008.
