A bill from U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Penn., and U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., cracking down on fraudulent charities passed the U.S. House without opposition on Tuesday.

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., is not the only member of the House leadership to announce his retirement from Congress on Wednesday as a Republican congressman from Florida also said he was not seeking another term. 

U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., part of the House leadership as senior deputy majority whip, said on Wednesday that he will not seek a fifth term. 

This Saturday in Jacksonville, Ed Dean, the No. 1 statewide political radio talk-show host focused on Florida politics and a senior editor for Sunshine State News, will be on center stage for an early test of strength for Republicans and Democrats looking to win elections this year. 

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced it will send $791 million to Florida through its Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program to help homes and buildings damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Matthew. 

U.S. HUD Sec. Ben Carson made the announcement on Tuesday morning. HUD sent $616 million to Florida back in November to help hurricane recovery efforts. 

On Friday, a leading national pundit offered its take on this year’s congressional races and found no changes in any of the contests in Florida. 

The Cook Report shifted the odds in 13 races across the country in its latest look at House races but did not change any of the races in the Sunshine State.
