A new poll shows a close contest between U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum in the race to replace term limited Gov. Rick Scott in Florida. 

On Tuesday, with voters turning their attention to the general election after last week’s primary, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., announced his endorsement of state CFO Jimmy Patronis.

This week, U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., announced that more federal money will be heading to Central Florida to help  Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB).

It looks like a soggy Labor Day weekend ahead in South Florida thanks to a tropical wave now approaching the state. Already the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) has moved into action, preparing the regional flood control system to handle heavy local rainfall.

On Monday , Volunteer Florida CEO David Mica, Jr., announced that Volunteer Florida received $24.3 million in funding to administer 38 AmeriCorps programs throughout Florida in 2018-2019. The funding includes $12,396,359 in federal grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service and $11,932,832 in local match.  

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who spent much of Friday in Captiva surveying area damage from blue-green algae and red tide, afterward moderated a roundtable discussion with local officials to discuss water quality issues and the local economic impacts of the devastating algal outbreaks.

In an effort to make certain all appropriate officials are clear, Gov. Rick Scott sent a letter to Florida’s locally-elected supervisors of elections on Wednesday highlighting the state’s partnership with them.
