Rubio Artfully Wades into the 'Melania Question'

July 19, 2016 - 9:00pm

Marco Rubio might not be in Cleveland this week, but CNN managed to track him down in Washington Tuesday and involve him in the first major controversy of the 2016 Republican National Convention -- Melania Trump's alleged plagiarism of a Michelle Obama speech.

PB County's Susan Bucher Strikes Again ... She's Baaack!

July 19, 2016 - 6:00am

If it's an election year, you can bet it's time for Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher to contribute to our amusement.

And sure enough.

Palm Beach County's serial bumble queen is at it again -- and who better to catch her in the act but Jose Lambiet of Gossip Extra. Lambiet isn't some born-yesterday blogger from the tabloids, remember, he is a first-rate newsman. When he tells me something, I know I can take it to the bank.

JMI's Everglades 'Backgrounder': First Finish Projects Already Started

July 14, 2016 - 6:00am

The James Madison Institute is the only entity I know that has expended resources to look at the spiraling, emotion-driven trend of government land grabs in Florida -- particularly in South Florida -- and pleaded for a little common sense.

Everglades Foundation's Pointless $10 Million Phosphorus-Begone Contest

July 13, 2016 - 9:30am

The Everglades Foundation is turning Florida's algae crisis into a carnival sideshow.

Eric Eikenberg, CEO of the 501(c)(3) non-profit, announced Tuesday the Foundation is a week and a half away from offering a $10 million reward to anyone who can rid fresh water of phosphorus and "help us get rid of the toxic algae."

Why does this smack of a P.T. Barnum fool-all-of-the-people trick?

Oily Annette Taddeo

July 13, 2016 - 6:00am

Democrat Joe Garcia's "FedEx flub" was exposed as hypocrisy earlier this week. But shame on me for letting Annette Taddeo's blatant show of do-as-I-say-not-a-I-do go unnoticed.

Nudity, Sexual Harassment ... Maria Sachs Still 'Calculating the Depth' of Aide's Deception

July 12, 2016 - 6:00am
Maria Sachs

A 28-year-old former legislative aide for state Sen. Maria Sachs, D-Delray Beach, has filed a sexual harassment complaint against his former boss, saying Sachs routinely undressed in front of him in her Senate office.

The FedEx Flub: Hypocrisy, Thy Name Is Joe Garcia

July 11, 2016 - 11:00am

In case you haven't noticed, hypocrisy out there in Campaign Land keeps piling up and gets deeper the closer we get to actual voting. The latest candidate wielding a shovel and adding to the mess? CD 26 candidate Joe Garcia.

10 Snail Kite Nests Mean 20 Billion More Gallons of Water for Algae-Plagued Estuaries

July 8, 2016 - 6:00am
Everglade snail kite

Because 10 endangered snail kites are nesting in the Kissimmee River floodplain, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has ordered a halt to the vital storage of 1.4 feet of river water north of Lake Okeechobee.

Rick Scott Will Propose 50/50 Septic-to-Sewer Match in His Next Budget

July 6, 2016 - 2:30pm
Rick Scott and algae in Stuart

Nobody is doing more for the Everglades or the problems in the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries than Gov. Rick Scott -- and frankly, nobody gets less credit for it from the people who will benefit most. And the governor announced more Wednesday: his intention to propose additional funding in his 2017-2018 budget to help local communities deal with the fetid, algae-choked bodies of water in Martin, St. Lucie and Lee counties on a more personal basis.

Everglades Foundation Still Peddling Its Debunked Science

July 6, 2016 - 6:00am

It's unfathomable to me that the Everglades Foundation can continue to claim “hypersalinity” is killing seagrass in Florida Bay -- proposing to “send water south” from Lake Okeechobee to save the bay.
