We knew this was coming. In fact, in the first year of the Obama administration, I focused on this very issue. Now it has risen to the level of potential reality.
Before the Presidents Day congressional recess, both houses of Congress voted to pass legislation extending a 2 percent cut in the amount employees must pay into Social Security.
An examination of administrative earmarks around the time of congressional votes on key pieces of President Obamas agenda suggests the White House used its power to fund local projects as a means to buy votes for major legislative efforts.
The political beliefs of Barack Obama, said Rick Santorum last week, come out of "some phony theology. ... Not a theology based on the Bible, a different theology, but no less a theology."
It is fascinating to see people accusing others of things that they themselves are doing, especially when their own sins are worse.
Many Republican House members, and the bloggers and tea partiers who cheered their victory in gaining a majority in November 2010, seem to be seething with discontent and eager for confrontation.

U.S. Rep. Bill Young, R-Fla., is breaking with Republicans in the House and calling to end the federal government shutdown. On Thursday, Young said he would back all bills funding the federal government.
The time for politics is over; lets get on to legislating and the hard work of tackling our $17 trillion national debt and solving important national issues like the current flood insurance crisis, said Young. All sides need to sit down and work these problems out together.

Rep. Travis Hutson, R-Elkton, has added his name to the growing list of support for state representative hopeful Blaise Ingoglia. Ingoglia is currently running for the House District 35 seat, which covers most of Hernando County.
I am excited to endorse Blaise Ingoglia for the Florida House, said Hutson. Blaise is a true conservative, dedicated to holding government accountable and advocating for fiscally responsible policy. I look forward to serving with him in Tallahassee.

Included at the meeting were representatives of the counties within the South Florida Water Management District, including district officials themselves.

Texting while driving just became illegal in Florida this week, but a Florida Atlantic University professor has invented a system that can stop your phone from texting entirely while you're driving on the road.
"If you are above, let's say, 8 miles an hour, we can say, that's driving, I can stop you just like that," said engineering professor Daniel Raviv. The professor has developed technology that uses a combination of road maps and GPS data to determine who's on the road, then shut off their phone's texting features.

According to Rasmussen Reports, President Barack Obama's full-month approval rating was up 1 point to 48 percent in September, the highest his approval rating has been since May.
But even though the president's approval rating was up for September, it's still down 8 points below December's high of 56 percent. The president's ratings for the past four months have been more in line with his approval rating during his first term in office. For most of the three years prior to his re-election, his approval rating hovered at either 47 percent or 48 percent.

U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., sounded an optimistic note about President Barack Obama calling congressional leaders to the White House for a meeting to resolve the federal shutdown.
An open dialogue is critical to any negotiation and Im hopeful that todays meeting will put us on the path to restoring government services, Buchanan said on Wednesday. The partisan blame-game will not put a single American back to work. Its time for all parties to roll up their sleeves and make the tough decisions to end this impasse.
