Florida Attorney General-elect Ashley Moody on Monday named Nicholas B. Cox as Florida’s statewide prosecutor. Moody picked Cox after reviewing applications forwarded by the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission and interviewing finalists. Cox is Florida’s current statewide prosecutor and with his appointment will continue his role overseeing the Office of Statewide Prosecution. 

Saying she “wants to take a page out of Oprah’s playbook,” Florida’s next first lady, Casey DeSantis, charmed an audience of mostly Republican women Monday, the day before her husband, Ron, will be sworn in as governor of the third-largest state in the nation.

Now wielding the gavel on the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee, U.S. Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., started his new duties by hitting the Sunshine State. 

From his perch on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, at the end of last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., brought out a bill to protect American technology from China and other nations. 

Starting his second term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., unveiled a bill to  “permanently ban oil and gas leasing, preleasing, and related activities in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.”

Following tradition, sometime around noon Tuesday, Ronald Dion DeSantis will place his left hand on the Bible and raise his right hand and repeat the 63-word oath of office as Florida’s 46th governor.

As one of his final acts as Florida's 45th governor, Rick Scott announced Friday evening 38 reappointments and 38 appointments to multiple state boards. Here is the listing:

Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees

Robert Stork, 67, of Vero Beach, is the founder and chief executive officer of Communications International, Inc. Stork is reappointed for a term beginning January 4, 2019, and ending June 30, 2022. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

With the new Congress in session, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is joining other Senate Republicans focusing on the Middle East.

A fiercely divided Florida Supreme Court on Friday rejected a nearly decade-long lawsuit that challenged whether the state has properly carried out a 1998 constitutional amendment that called for ensuring a “high quality” system of public schools.
