Feds Say New Abortion Law Can't Block Clinic Funding

A key federal health agency on Tuesday notified Florida and other states that they may not ban Medicaid funding for family-planning services at clinics that also offer elective abortions.

That likely blocks a controversial provision of a new Florida abortion law (HB 1411) signed last month by Gov. Rick Scott.

Galvano will be holding a campaign kickoff event at Dolphin Aviation in Sarasota on Thursday. The event includes a half hour VIP reception and will be followed by a two-hour kickoff event.

Supreme Court Appears Split on Obama's Immigration Orders

The U.S. Supreme Court seemed to be divided on whether the president overstepped his authority in signing the orders to shield millions of immigrants from deportation after hearing oral arguments in a case against the measures Monday. 

The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case against President Barack Obama’s 2014 executive order to protect immigrants and make them eligible to work in the United States. 

Attempted Murder Charges Dropped Against Shark Tank's Javier Manjarres

State prosecutors have dropped charges against conservative political blogger Javier Manjarres, alleging his accuser had stopped cooperating with them.

Manjarres, author of the Shark Tank blog, was arrested last month for attempted murder with a gun and for burglary of a conveyance with battery after an alleged incident with his sister’s boyfriend, Jason Holowinski. 

Politico reported Monday charges had been dropped because Holowinski refused to cooperate with Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg’s office in the case.

Sen. Greg Evers, R-Baker, has officially filed to run for Congress, according to new information posted on the Federal Election Commission’s website.

Evers will run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, running for the seat in Florida’s first congressional district, which covers the western Panhandle area of the Sunshine State. 

The first congressional district covers all of Escambia, Holmes, and Santa Rosa Counties and is the most Republican district in the entire state.

Jacksonville Lawmaker Faces Federal Indictment

State Rep. Reggie Fullwood, a three-term Democratic lawmaker from Jacksonville, was indicted Friday on federal charges that allege he used campaign donations for personal use at grocery, jewelry and liquor stores.

United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley III announced in a news release that Fullwood was charged with 10 counts of wire fraud and four counts of failure to file federal income-tax returns for 2010 through 2013.

To conceal the embezzlement of campaign funds, the indictment alleges that Fullwood submitted fraudulent campaign expenditure reports to the state.

Rick Scott Vetoes Alimony Reform Bill

Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the family law reform bill on Friday, legislation to reform alimony in the Sunshine State.  Scott said he feared SB 668 would improperly place the needs of a parent before the needs of a child.
