Free orange juice will continue to be available to travelers at Florida welcome centers as the Department of Citrus squeezes staff to help the embattled industry.

The Florida Citrus Commission on Tuesday approved a preliminary $20.7 million budget that will eliminate 20 of 46 positions at the Department of Citrus, including 14 that are currently filled. Employees who will lose their jobs are in administration, scientific research and marketing.

Sen. Tom Lee says he will be running for re-election to return to the Florida Senate later this year, clearing up rumors of his departure from the Florida Legislature.

This week, Florida Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan led a bipartisan effort to reform foster services. 

Buchanan, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Human Resources Subcommittee, unveiled the “Family First Prevention Services Act" on Monday.

The gunman who carried out a massacre early Sunday in an Orlando nightclub passed all of the legally required background checks for his weapons, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam told reporters Monday.

Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old St. Lucie County resident, had a clean criminal record, passed a mental-health screening to get a security guard job, lawfully purchased guns from a licensed dealer and abided by the state's three-day waiting period to complete the purchase of guns, Putnam said.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump heaped on the criticisms of President Barack Obama, implying the president might understand the shooting "better than anybody understands,” suggesting Obama's refusal to call the massacre in an Orlando nightclub which left 50 dead and dozens wounded an act of Radical Islamic terrorism. 

Marco Rubio is now reconsidering his decision not to run for a second term in the Senate after the  jihadist terrorist attack in Orlando over the weekend. 

While some Republicans have walked back their endorsements of presidential candidate Donald Trump in recent days, a Florida congressman threw his support to the GOP’s presumptive candidate. 

Congressman Ted Yoho endorsed Trump on Saturday, praising the celebrity businessman as a political outsider like himself. 

“I am excited to stand not just behind the American people’s choice for the next president of the United States of America but my personal choice: Mr. Donald Trump,” Yoho announced in his endorsement. 

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, issued an emotional statement during a press conference Sunday afternoon, saying Americans are "heartbroken" by the Orlando nightclub attack by a Port St. Lucie man who pledged allegiance to ISIS before he killed 50 people and injured 53 others.  But Rubio pledged the country would stand together, united to overcome the tragedy.
