With two weeks to go until Election Day, most of the congressional races across the Sunshine State are not getting much in the way of attention. They simply can’t compete with the presidential race or even the Senate contest between Marco Rubio and Patrick Murphy.

Solar-energy supporters fighting a proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot expressed outrage Wednesday after a policy director for a Tallahassee-based think tank was caught on tape discussing utility-industry efforts to deceive voters.

Pro-solar groups, in a mid-day conference call with reporters, said the leaked audio tape confirms their suspicion that the ballot proposal --- known as Amendment 1 --- is a multimillion-dollar deception that will hinder the future of alternative energy in Florida.

Lawmakers to Again Deal with Death Penalty Sentencing

For the second year in a row, Florida lawmakers will attempt to fix the state's death-penalty sentencing scheme in response to court rulings finding that the process is unconstitutional.

Incoming Senate President Joe Negron, who will take over as head of the Senate after the November elections, told The News Service of Florida on Tuesday that lawmakers will have to redress the issue of jury unanimity, at the heart of rulings Friday by the Florida Supreme Court, when they reconvene next year.

University Systems Looks to Boost Online Classes

The Florida university system has set an ambitious goal of having the equivalent of 40 percent of its full-time undergraduate students taking online classes by 2025.

That would more than double the usage of online classes from the 2013-14 academic year, under a goal set by the system's Board of Governors.

A key factor in that transition will be cost, with the idea that students may have an incentive to shift to online classes if they receive breaks on tuition or fees.
