Stand Up for Arizona

April 30, 2010 - 6:00pm

Major demonstrations are to be held in 70 cities on May 1 to protest the new Arizona law to cope with an army of half a million illegal aliens now living there.

Since Gov. Jan Brewer signed that law a week ago, Arizona has been subjected to savage attack as the modern embodiment of Jim Crow, apartheid and Nazism. Few have risen in her defense.

House Backs Mandatory Ultrasounds

April 29, 2010 - 6:00pm

On the last day of session, the House tackled a health-care measure passed by the Senate which included an amendment requiring that most pregnant women considering an abortion have an ultrasound in the first trimester. The House passed the amendment 72-46, almost mirroring party lines.

Both pro-life and pro-choice advocates maintain that ultrasounds are one of the chief reasons that abortions are on the decline in Florida, with 2009 seeing the lowest number of abortions since 1997.

Senate Passes Controversial Abortion Bill to House

April 28, 2010 - 6:00pm

Disregarding a threat by House Democrats and the admonishment of one male Republican, the Senate voted Thursday to require that most pregnant women in their first trimester pay for an ultrasound when seeking an abortion.

The Senate passed by 23-16 a House health care bill amended with the ultrasound requirement, proposed by Orlando Republican Andy Gardiner. The bill now goes back to the House for a vote.

Florida Voices React to Charlie Crist Becoming an Independent

April 28, 2010 - 6:00pm

"There are two parts to this story:

"The first one is the celebration of Marco Rubio as our party's nominee. Never in our party's history have we witnessed a 65-plus point swing in a statewide campaign involving two well-known candidates. Kudos to him. Marco has risen to become a darling of Republicans nationwide and is the heavy favorite to become a U.S. senator before the age of 40.

Over a week ago, I reported in the Southern Political Report, a DC-based political Website, that Republican Florida Gov. Charlie Crist definitely would run for U.S. Senate as an independent.
