Ex-Justice Official: Eric Holder Encourages 'Vote Thieves'

While citizen activists slog through jury excusal records and voter-registration rolls, a former U.S. Justice Department official says the federal government is illegally harassing Florida and U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis is demanding answers.

Hans von Spakovsky, a former counsel for civil rights at DOJ, charged that a letter from his former employer ordering Florida to stop removing noncitizen voters "directly abets vote thieves in a key state as [Attorney General Eric] Holder's boss seeks re-election."

Marco Rubio Shows He Can Fill One VP Role -- Attacking Obama

Marco Rubio insists that he has no desire to be Mitt Romneys running mate but he is taking on one of the main roles of the vice presidential candidate -- that of attack dog.

The attorney representing three Florida Supreme Court justices branded as "baseless" any suggestions that his clients have acted improperly.

Speaking for Justices Barbara Pariente, Fred Lewis and Peggy Quince -- all of whom face retention election this November -- attorney Dan Stengle said the judges "have done nothing even beyond what a candidate for merit retention without opposition may lawfully and appropriately do."

Study: Corruption Rampant in Sunshine State; Bring on Ethics Reforms

Between 2000 and 2010, federal officials made 781 corruption convictions involving Florida, just ahead of California, Texas and New York.

Florida’s GOP Senate Field to be in Place Wednesday

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux has announced he will file qualifying paperwork Wednesday morning to round out the announced GOP field intent on taking on long-serving U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, retired Army officer Mike McCalister of Plant City and former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon of Melbourne all submitted their paperwork on Monday.

Assisted Living Facilities Rulemaking Under Way; Industry, Advocates at Odds

After a newspaper report last year revealed 70 deaths from abuse and neglect at Florida's assisted living facilities since 2002, efforts to reform the system have so far come to naught but on Tuesday another got under way.

The Miami Herald series "Neglected to Death" generated a work group appointed by Gov. Rick Scott, a grand jury probe and several reform bills that died in the last legislative session. Those bills that adopted the work group's recommendations for oversight of the facilities passed the Senate but didn't get a hearing in the House of Representatives.
