June 19, 2012 - 6:00pm

A poll released by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday finds that while voters in Florida have a low opinion of Gov. Rick Scott, they do support his effort to stop illegal aliens from voting.

Scott is upside down in the poll with 49 percent of those survey disapproving of the governor while 39 percent approve of his tenure in Tallahassee. A solid majority of 60 percent support Scotts effort to stop noncitizens from voting, purging them from the rolls.

Lawmakers Fire Salvo in Insurance War

June 19, 2012 - 6:00pm

Frustrated but not surprised about a lack of progress on property insurance issues during an election year, a pair of key legislators on Tuesday began preparing for another push once the dust settles in November.

More than three months after lawmakers failed to make meaningful changes to the state's property insurance landscape, Rep. Bryan Nelson, R-Apopka, and Sen. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, released a three-part position paper they say highlights the hidden risks all insurance policyholders face in the event of a devastating storm.

The Other War on Women

June 19, 2012 - 6:00pm

WASHINGTON -- By now most sentient Americans have heard about the war on women. That is, the so-called Republican war on women, which has been framed as a battle waged by stodgy old white guys who want to deny women reproductive freedom.

Florida: Keeping Noncitizens from Voting a 'Year-Round Obligation'

June 18, 2012 - 6:00pm

Florida officials continue to fend off a mounting number of attempts to halt work clearing non-U.S. citizens from the voter rolls.

On Tuesday, a coalition of civil rights groups -- groups that adamantly claim to be nonpartisan -- filed a lawsuit charging Florida with race discrimination for how it has gone about trying to find people ineligible from voting on the county registration lists.

Secretary of State spokesman Chris Cate responded that race and party are not being considered.

Connie Mack Keeps Adding Support for Senate Bid

June 18, 2012 - 6:00pm

Already ahead of his Republican rivals in the polls and in gathering endorsements, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack strengthened his status as the favorite in the race on Tuesday as he gained new backing.

On Tuesday, FreedomWorks, a prominent national conservative organization with ties to the tea party movement, announced that its PAC was backing Mack for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.

In a story by Kenric Ward, Sunshine State News reported last week that the organization would likely throw its support behind Mack.

June 22, 2012 - 6:00pm

The left wants us to believe that paying for teachers, firefighters and police is a federal responsibility. Not so. Such services have traditionally been the responsibility of state and local governments.

Mickey Mouse Move Means Big Bu$ine$$ for JaxPort

June 18, 2012 - 6:00pm

Florida scored a major victory Tuesday in its fight to build up its seaports against nearby East Coast competition.

Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that a major portion of its merchandise to be sold at Disney parks and facilities in Florida would now come through JaxPort, shifting the bulk of its ship unloading from the Port of Savannah, from where many of the China-made mouse ears and princess gowns were then trucked to Central Florida.

Don Gaetz: Expect Anti-U.N. Agenda 21 in 2013

June 18, 2012 - 6:00pm

Expect a bill that shelters private property in Florida from takeover by a United Nations-led world government effort, Senate President-designate Don Gaetz said Tuesday.

And expect that bill to receive favorable support.

Appearing on Fort Walton radio station WFTW 1260 AM, Gaetz said he expected Florida lawmakers to introduce and approve a bill similar to Senate Bill 477 that has been approved by the Alabama Legislature.

I think there is a very good chance that bill will come up, Gaetz said.
