Two Republicans battling it out in the Aug. 14 primary for an open state Senate seat representing parts of the First Coast scored major endorsements on Wednesday.

Tom Slade, the former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF), announced on Wednesday that he is backing former Rep. Aaron Bean over Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville, for the SD 4 seat that represents all of Nassau and parts of Duval County.

Floridas supervisors of elections appear ready to pick up Gov. Rick Scotts effort to remove non-U.S. citizens from the lists of registered voters, but not until after the Aug. 14 primary.
