Two decades after voters approved a constitutional amendment that called for a “high quality” system of public schools, the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday took up a legal battle about whether the state has properly carried out voters’ wishes.

Potential recounts in Florida grew Thursday, with the governor’s race entering the range for an automatic recount two days after Democrat Andrew Gillum conceded to Republican opponent Ron DeSantis.

Officials at the federal and state levels continue to go to bat for the Panhandle and other parts of the state impacted by Hurricane Michael a month after that storm hit Florida.

Over this weekend and with a federal holiday on Monday, the nation honors Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, to mark the end of World War I on Nov. 11, 1918.

Apparently the race to claim a U.S. Senate seat isn't over in Florida. 

Republican state Rep. Matt Caldwell declared victory Tuesday night as he held a narrow advantage in the contest to succeed term-limited Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam.

Few beyond the Republican Party of Florida believed former congressman Ron DeSantis could overcome the raucous Democratic and media stampede or the millions of out-of-state dollars behind it. But by 9:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, when the numbers no longer added up -- when there were fewer than 120,000 ballots uncounted in the state's blue counties -- it was over.

In the end, "bundling" amendments -- that is, lumping more than one issue into a single ballot measure, didn't turn voters off, because 11 of the 12 amendments passed handily, with more than the required 60 percent of the vote.
