Mitt Romney Strengthens Paul Ryan

Unlike several vice presidential candidates in recent years, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin can count on the support of his running mate if he sets his sights on the Republican presidential nomination -- and recent signs indicate that Ryan is going all out to raise his profile.

In an interview with CBS News Thursday morning, Ann Romney, wife of defeated Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said she and her husband are behind Ryan if he runs for president in 2016.

Scott Signs Bills Giving Trafficking Victims a Way to Clear Records

Victims of human trafficking will soon have a legal path to expunge records of crimes they were forced to commit in Florida.

Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday signed a pair of bills (HB 1325 and HB 1327) that take effect Jan. 1, creating a legal process for human-trafficking victims to get their criminal records expunged -- typically for prostitution charges.

The process would only apply to crimes committed while the victims were being forced, threatened or coerced.

Both Rick Scott and state employee union members are declaring victory after a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday on the Florida governor's controversial efforts to subject some 85,000 state employees, and countless more job applicants, to suspicionless drug testing.

In a unanimous decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit overturned a federal trial court's ruling last year that declared Scott's entire policy to be an unconstitutional violation of Fourth Amendment protections against unlawful searches and seizures.
