At a media event in Miami on Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott named Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez-Cantera as the 19th lieutenant governor of Florida. The position had been vacant since March when Scott demanded then-Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carrolls resignation after news broke she was being investigated regarding directing money toward Internet cafes.

Gary Johnson Not Buying Obama's NSA Reforms
President Barack Obama is scheduled later this week to speak on reforming the way the federal government collects information on citizens -- but former Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico is not buying it. Johnson was the Libertarian Partys presidential candidate in 2012 and has left the door open to running again in 2016.

MaryLynn Magar Recovering From Stroke, Plans for Legislative Session

Trey Radel Back to Work in Congress After Cocaine Bust
U.S. Rep. Trey Radel, R-Fla., is back to work on Capitol Hill after pleading guilty to possessing cocaine and going into rehab. Radel submitted 28 nominations to the military service academies on Friday.

Rick Scott Calls Special Election for Steve Precourt's House Seat
With Steve Precourt resigning his seat from the Florida House this week, Gov. Rick Scott called a special election on Friday to fill the seat. The primaries will be held on March 11 while the general election will be held on April 8.
Precourt was facing term limits in November and three candidates -- Republican former Rep. Eric Eisnaugle and Democrats Lee Douglas and Shaun Raja -- were already running for the seat.
