A poll from Rasmussen Reports released on Tuesday finds that more Americans are starting to think that George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense. The poll of American adults finds that 24 percent of American adults think Zimmerman is guilty of murder -- down from 33 percent in a Rasmussen poll from late March and 30 percent in another poll taken in early April. Back in March, 15 percent thought Zimmerman acted in self-defense -- but that number has jumped up to 40 percent in the new poll.

Daniel Boom Robledo, who faces charges associated with the state attorneys office crackdown on the SUR-13 street gang, received a life sentence Monday for the second-degree murder of a Manatee County man. Robledo will return to the courtroom in November to face racketeering charges and three counts of armed robbery. This man is the fourth SUR-13 gang member sentenced to prison in recent months, Attorney General Pam Bondi stated in a release.

In Orlando on Monday, political consultant Doug Guetzloe, founder and chairman of Ax the Tax, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for failing to file his tax returns. Prosecutors said Guetzloe failed to file returns on almost $187,000 in income in 2005, and more than $188,000 in 2006. During his February trial, IRS employees testified that Guetzloe repeatedly filed his tax returns late, and because of that, accrued more than $200,000 in fines and penalties. His attorney asked for, but was denied, just probation for his client.

Todd Alan Benfield, 45, of Naples, pled guilty Monday to shooting and killing a Florida panther, in violation of the Endangered Species Act, U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announced. Benfield faces a maximum penalty of one year in federal prison, a fine of up to $100,000, and forfeiture of weapons and other equipment used to kill the animal. The Endangered Species Act makes it a federal Class A misdemeanor to knowingly take an endangered species of wildlife. A subspecies of puma, there are an estimated 100 to 160 panthers in South Florida.

Just as a reminder that the hurricane season officially begins on June 1 and that nature doesnt follow the calendar, the seasons first named storm, Tropical Storm Alberto, has formed off Georgia. The storm isnt expected to impact Florida or even Georgia, other than to create some better surfing conditions.
