You Go, Gov. Rick Scott, Take That Federal Health Grant Dough

The Huffington Post is all over Florida Gov. Rick Scott Friday morning because he bad-mouths the president's health-care reform but is happy to take the money it provides. Check out the story for yourself.

Long before Scott was governor, the story reminds us, he was warning of bureaucrats taking over health-care decisions and fretting over how close President Barack Obama was coming to socialized medicine as practiced in Britain and Canada. In fact, says the story, Obamacare was the one area on which Scott and his primary opponent Bill McCollum agreed last year. Scott called McCollum's lawsuit against it "what many of us hope is a rollback of the single largest government power grab in history."

The story suggests Scott is a hypocrite because, despising Obamacare as he does, he's going to take the $35.7 million Florida was offered in a federal health grant to pay for services to the mentally or physically disabled to stay out of nursing homes.

And why not?

The feds left the Sunshine State in a years-old Medicaid hole. Florida did its part, Washington did not. This money was due the state -- not because of Obamacare, but because of federal laxity.

And election-bound President Obama is busy giving 2012 swing states -- of which Florida is one -- all the sugar he can muster. So, while Obamacare is still the law of the land, while Florida is behind in the money it's due, good for Gov. Scott. Surely he doesn't have to love the law to take this particular money.
