W&L Students Pick Bob McDonnell over Marco Rubio as GOP VP
For those looking for a dark-horse vice presidential candidate, the "generals" at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., are projecting Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell to be teamed with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
It may have helped that McDonnell spoke to the students recently as they held their traditional mock convention -- a quadrennial event started in 1908 -- which they bill as the nations most accurate.
"He's a great speaker and relates well to crowds. He's known for having a lot of charisma, which is something the Romney campaign could use as well, Kail McFarland, communications chairwoman of the convention, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The students had also considered Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami.
"They felt that Rubio just wasn't tested on a national basis yet, and because the Romney campaign is so worried about managing their image. And that might cause them to worry, McFarland told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
It should be noted the schools students picked former Sen. Harold Ford of Tennessee to be the Democrats' vice presidential pick in 2008.
