Wanting More Time with Obama, Meek Will Wait at the Airport for Air Force One
Not surprisingly, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, currently battling Jeff Greene for the Democratic nomination in the U.S. Senate election, is trying to make the most of President Barack Obama appearing in Florida on Wednesday night. Obama will be in Miami Beach for a fund-raiser for the Democratic Party and Meek will be waiting at the airport for the president.
"All across the state, Floridians are standing up to support the real Democrat in this race, said Meek who is ahead of Greene in polls, but both Democrats trail the likely Republican nominee and Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running without party affiliation, in polls on the general election.
Floridians need leaders who will fight for middle-class families, not billionaires who made a fortune betting against them, said Meek, taking a shot at Greene. I'm excited to have President Obama in Florida, and I'm thrilled to have his support in this campaign.
Meek has been making the most of his ties with the Democratic establishment this week. He campaigned with former President Bill Clinton on Monday and Bob Graham, a former governor and U.S. senator, on Tuesday. On Sunday, he will attend a rally with state CFO Alex Sink, the likely Democratic gubernatorial candidate, in Tampa.
