Video: Members of Congress Profit While National Debt Explodes

From 2004 to 2008, the net worth of 80 members of Congress more than doubled, according to an analysis from the Center for Responsive Politics.

The above video by the activist group Government Gone Wild highlights these findings:

The average net worth of 39 Republicans and 41 Democrats more than doubled from 2004-2008.
Of those 39 Republicans, the average net worth increase was 168 percent.
The average net worth of the 41 Democrats increased 756 percent.
From 2008-2009, the average net worth of these 80 members of Congress increased another 41 percent.
Four Florida Republican House members were among the biggest gainers: Adam Putnam (now state ag commissioner), Connie Mack, Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
