Vern Buchanan: Obama Needs a Plan to Take on ISIS
After the Islamic terrorist attacks in Brussels, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., called for President Barack Obama to come up with a plan to defeat Islamic State (ISIS) terrorism.
“The attack today in Belgium is further evidence that ISIS is a growing threat to the United States and the global community,” Buchanan said on Tuesday. “And yet despite the tragedies in the Middle East, Paris, San Bernardino, and now Brussels, the administration still has not released its strategy to defeat ISIS.”
The Florida Republican pointed to his “Social Media Screening For Terrorists Act" which would ensure the Department of Homeland Security examines the social media posts of all foreigners who look to enter the United Sates. The bill is being championed in the U.S. Senate by former presidential hopeful U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
“ISIS is relentless in their use of social media as a propaganda tool,” Buchanan said. “We must do everything in our power to screen these social media sites to safeguard Americans.”
