With the New York Times reporting that Bowe Bergdahl, the Army deserter who was caught by terrorist forces and exchanged for five terrorists, is now asking President Barack Obama for a presidential pardon, a Florida congressman stressed his opposition on Tuesday.
“It has been seven years since Sgt. Bergdahl chose to abandon his fellow soldiers in Afghanistan during a time of war,” said U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., on Tuesday. “He should be court-martialed and held accountable.”
Buchanan pointed to reports that Bergdahl’s actions led to the death of several American soldiers.
