Vern Buchanan: Keep Iran Sanctions Until They Pay Victims of Terror
U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., urged the U.S. Senate to pass the “Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act.”
The bill, which passed the House, would ensure sanctions remain on Iran until it pays court ordered reparations to victims of terrorism.
“My position is clear: no lifting of sanctions until every American victim of Iranian terrorism is compensated,” said Buchanan on Tuesday. “I urge the Senate to do the right thing by providing justice for those who have suffered at the hands of Iranian terrorism and put the interests of American citizens over those of the Iranian regime.
“As we move down the path of diplomacy it is important to remember Iran’s track record and not be fooled by hollow verbal gestures by this dangerous regime,” Buchanan added.
U.S. courts have ruled more than 1,000 Americans owe more than $43 billion from Iran due to its backing of terrorism.
