Vern Buchanan: American People Should Get Credit for Staying Out of Syria
With news breaking that Russia and America reached a diplomatic agreement on Syria, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., said on Sunday that the American people should get the credit as they stood against attacking that Middle Eastern nation.
"Democracy worked," Buchanan insisted. "The people's voice was heard by the politicians in Washington and we avoided a unilateral American military assault that could have had dangerous consequences."
Buchanan offered middling praise of President Barack Obama. "Although the president wanted to launch an attack, I commend him for pausing long enough to let the American people and Congress weigh in, Buchanan said. And in the end, that is why we are now moving toward an international response that does not inject America into a civil war in the Middle East."
