U.S. Rep. Rooney to Hold Fundraiser during Steelers-Titans

As the 2012 NFL season gets underway, Congressman Tom Rooney, R-Tequesta, already has at least one game penned into his schedule.

The GOP deputy whip will be raising cash for his 2012 re-election efforts by watching his belovedPittsburgh Steelers play the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 9.

Rooney, the grandson of Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr. and the nephew of current team owner Dan Rooney (the U.S. ambassador to Ireland), is asking $500 per individual ticket to the 1 p.m. game at Heinz Field.A PAC must kick in $1,500 for one ticket, $2,000 for two.

Checks are payable to Rooney for Congress.

As of June 30, Rooney had $597,068 on hand for his re-election efforts.

Rooney is currently slated to be opposed by only state Rep. Paige Kreegel, R-Punta Gorda, in 2012. However, Kreegel, who will be prohibited from running for re-election to the House in 2012 due to term limits, isnt expected to seek Rooneys District 16 once the new congressional districts lines are remapped next year.
