U.S. Loses 95,000 Jobs in September
The U.S. economy lost 95,000 jobs in September, mainly due to the loss of temporary 2010 Census workers and other government jobs, according to the jobs report released Friday by the Labor Department.
The report is hardly a "game changer" for either the Republicans or the Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. Democrats will point to the 64,000 private-sector jobs created in September (if they mention employment statistics at all), and Republicans will point to the 9.6 percent unemployment rate (which is unchanged from August) as proof the Democratic plans and policies aren't working.
Before the report came out, some hyped its importance in terms of its effect on the 2010 elections and the future of the country, but the as-you-were character of the jobs report means it's unlikely to have any significant impact on the midterms.
