U.S. House Ethics Committee Investigating Michele Bachmann
The U.S. House Ethics Committee announced Friday that it is investigating Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., according to reports from the Associated Press. Bachmann is being investigated for alleged misuse of campaign funds.
The committee announced it had received a referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics on Friday. The Office of Congressional Ethics is an independent investigative body. The Office said in a brief statement that it would be formally investigating the one-time Republican presidential candidate.
Peter Waldron, who served as Bachmanns national field coordinator in the 2012 presidential race, filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission earlier this year alleging that Bachmann's campaign had used leadership PAC funds to pay presidential campaign staff.
Other allegations say she took campaign staff on a personal book tour for her autobiography.
Bachmann is also facing an FBI probe and a Federal Elections Commission investigation into her presidential campaign.
