U.S. Army Blocks Guardian Website
The U.S. Army has blocked access toThe Guardian's website on computers in the organization, according to a report from the Monterey Herald. The restriction comes after The Guardian published leaked National Security Agency documents exposing a top-secret surveillance program to snoop on millions of ordinary Americans.
Gordon Van Vleet, a spokesperson for the Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), confirmed the Army had blocked "some access to press coverage and online content about the NSA leaks."The restriction had been made Armywide.
The Guardian first published information about the NSA's surveillance practices in early June after former security contractor Edward Snowden provided leaks to the news organization. On Thursday, The Guardian releasednew documentsexposing that the NSA had been collecting U.S. citizens' email records for more than two years under President Obama.
