Unclaimed Property Auction Brings in $1.16 Million for Florida Schools

On Wednesday, Florida CFO Jeff Atwater said the 2013 Unclaimed Property Auction which had taken place in Tampa on Saturday brought in $1.16 million for public schools. This makes it the second highest grossing Unclaimed Property Auction ever held by the state. The property--which included a 1776 Continental Note--was found in abandoned safe deposits at Florida banks.

I thank everyone who put the auction together and more importantly, to thank the team at the Bureau of Unclaimed Property who work tirelessly everyday to reunite Floridians with their unclaimed dollars or property, said Atwater in a statement on Wednesday. I encourage everyone to frequently check our website to see if they have unclaimed property. It is our goal to give back to Floridians what rightfully belongs to them.
