U.N. Consultant to Oversee Florida Poly's Accreditation

Dr. Ghazi Darkazalli, a United Nations consultant and the former president and CEO of Marian Court College in Swampscott, Mass., has been charged with landing accreditation for the states newest university.

The education committee of the Florida Polytechnic University board of directors unanimously selected Darkazalli to oversee the creation of an academic identity for the Lakeland campus through obtaining accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission and making recommendations on degree programs and faculty hiring for the school that is to be focused on science, technology, engineering and math programs.

Darkazalli, who is currently a U.N. development program consultant, has a background in business and engineering, according to a release from the university.

We are delighted that Dr. Darkazalli will be Florida Polytechnic Universitys new interim provost, Ava Parker, chief operating officer of Florida Polytechnic University, stated in a release.

His appointment to this vital post is a positive first step in developing our curriculum, as well as the faculty and governance structure for the university.
