Two Florida Candidates Help Kick Off New Effort for Independents

Two Florida congressional candidates -- businessman Luther Lee and businesswoman Stephanie Anderson -- are taking part in the Indy Alliance as they and other congressional hopefuls across the country are trying to get 100,000 Americans to rally behind independent candidates across the country. Lee is running against U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., while Anderson is challenging U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.

The plan is simple, the Indy Alliance announced on Wednesday as it launched. Alliance candidates that win will coordinate decisions on caucusing with the goal that neither party has a majority. This simple act will put the swing votes back into the hands of the people and allow us to force congressional rule changes that will reduce partisan gridlock and restore balance.

Depending on partisan gains and losses, it may only take a single election to gain another independent senator and a few members of the House to make this a reality, the Indy Alliance continued. Even if we do not achieve this in the 2014 midterm elections, we are only laying the groundwork for an even bigger push in 2016.
