Tropical Storm Warning Extended to the Suwannee River
The warning for Tropical Storm Debby, lingering as it grows in the northern Gulf of Mexico, has been extended eastward at 11 a.m. EDT, according to the National Weather Service.
And the forecast is for the center of Debby, which is hitting the northern Gulf Coast with heavy rains, to linger over water for a few days before making landfall.
Warnings are now in effect for the coast of Louisiana from the mouth of the Pearl River, to south of the Suwannee River in Floridas panhandle.
A watch is in effect from south of the Suwannee River to Anclote Key.
At 11 a.m. Debby was located at latitude 28.0 north, 86.2 west, moving toward the northeast near 6 mph. Little motion is expected during the next 12 to 24 hours, with a gradual turn to the west thereafter.
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph. Some slight strengthening is possible in the next 48 hours.
Bald Point in Floridas Big Bend reported sustained winds near 52 mph.
