
Tropical Storm Karen Heads Toward Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Karen is making its way to the Gulf Coast on Friday, with landfall expected late Saturday or early Sunday morning.
According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami,Karen had maximum winds of 60 mph as of 8 a.m. Friday. The storm was about 275 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River and was moving northwest at 10 mph.It's possible the storm could become a hurricane as it approaches land.
A hurricane watch was in effect from Grand Isle, La., to west of Destin, Fla. A tropical storm warning was issued for the Louisiana coast from Grand Isle to the mouth of the Pearl River, including the New Orleans area.
Karen would be the second named storm to hit the U.S. this year. The first was Tropical Storm Andrea, which hit Florida in June.
