Tony Bennett Expected to Resign
Commissioner of Education Tony Bennett is expected to resign Thursday from his position after he cameunder fire for changing the grades of a charter school in his home state of Indiana that was run by Christel DeHaan, a big time Republican Party donor. He has only held the position as commissioner of education since last January.
Bennett's resignation will be a major setback for Gov. Rick Scott and education leaders around the state who are working tirelessly to overhaul Florida's education system to keep it on track with the national Common Core State Standards.
Scott was silent on Wednesday when asked whether Bennett's position as commissioner was secure.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
